A walk in the clouds

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

I had a window seat on our way back to Singapore from Hong kong. We had a 5pm flight so the sun was not so glaring so i took out my camera and hoped for great cloud formations. I was fortunate to be seated where the wing of the aircraft is far enough to take a wider shot outside. I did see some interesting clouds  during the 3-1/2 hour flight and below are three of what in my humble opinion were the best from the bunch, taken at different times.

 1. I like this cloud setting. It formed a straight horizon that looked as if it is the sea, with the clouds above as the normal cloud you see when you are in the beach.

 2. This second one is interesting in the sense that it captured the tug of war between the bright and dark skies, with the sunset looming. And thicker clouds were engolfed with thinner, fog- like ones.

3. Perhaps my favourite of all the shots I took from this series. I like how the cloud tails from below right leads the eye towards the setting sun. It’s breath- taking to see it in person and I was hoping to capture even just a fraction of the magic it brings visually. I also like the fact that the clouds on this shot has formed like sea waves and the blue sky become like the ocean’s water.

Hope you like it.

Really awesome formations Rey! I’m falling in love with all the shots!

(:

My brothers are tennis players too and they told me about the match knowing that I won’t be able to catch it on cable-tv; they said Ana played a good game but Maria managed to break the game and headed towards the road of victory. Anyway, I’m sure both of them played their very best!

Those are gorgeous shots Rey! Thanks for the advice, I think I’ve decided on the D40. Do you notice much difference with the 6MP of the D40 and the 10MP of the D200?

angelo:
It’s not really much on the image output. What I love about the D200 is the controls its capable to make me get better images. some of the features I like in it that are not in the D40 is that it has better matrix metering, advanced continuous autofocus system, larger image buffer, five frames per second shooting, exposure bracketing, and the more straightforward, on-the-fly dedicated button controls. Not to mention the more robust, magnesium alloy body compared to the D40’s plastic body. It can also autofocus pre-AF lenses especially primes, which you need to do manual on the D40.
Again, it’s not much about the quality of the output image. it’s more of the advantage of taking that picture right is the difference. :)

I just happen to be at the right seat and at the right time, Ghee. Yeah, watching clouds gives you a glimpse that the world is revolving slowly.

Hi Rey,
These are all great photos. I am sure it was more amazing to seeit in person. Your captures are awesome just the same and so are your descriptions.

amazing! i like the second shot best, the formation is just, well, “out of this world.”

when we went to mt. pulag last year, we’re supposed to experience the famous sea of clouds at the summit, but it didn’t happen, fog was all we saw! and you are very lucky to have that seat and capture the amazing pictures above. :)
