The Way of the Clay
Sunday, May 18th, 2008"Perfection does not exist - you can always do better and you can always grow." –Les Brown
I’ve always wanted to be a man that is more wiser today that he is yesterday. To always learn from my mistakes, and use my own pains and experiences to become a better person. I strongly believe that growth is always a process and should be dealth with the same passion and enthusiasm when you are 30 as much as you were 15. That’s why i always make it a point that I don’t get stagnant. That i grew every year and learn new skills and new abilities, however meek or unsignificant they are. In 2006 I got serious in photography, and last year I learned to Rollerblade (lol, it was a big task for me, at least). This year is no different, even though I’ve been double as busy with work as last year.
I’ve aquainted myself toanother form of art. something I’ve always wanted to try when i was younger but don’t know the tools and materials to have in order to pursue it. Thankfully, artshops are as common nowadays, especially here in singapore that purchasing molding white clay and wood carvers was no problem.
Yes, this time i was trying my hand on doing sculptures. I’m a big fan of movie and superhero action figures and I love collecting them so I thought what better way to start sculpting that doing a comicbook character I love. So I did a 1:10 scale of the HULK. I have to create on that is my own interpretation so i modeled one to my own drawing. And yeah, it’s an instant figure-it-yourself kind of sculpting having no form of any training whatsoever. I finished the sculpting in around four hours, with two hours spent on the head and another two for the rest of the bust. The painting was done a week after since I needed the bust to completely dry. The result is not really that satisfactory to my liking, but I guess it’s not bad for a beginner’s hand. You’d be the judge.
Sculpting the head with Fergus looking (and always asking to help).
The finished HULK head, after two hours of working.
The finished bust. Still unpainted. It consumes around 3 kilograms of clay.
Painting time (after a week). My able squire enjoyed yielding the brush.
The finished product.
8 years and counting
Monday, May 12th, 2008I don’t pretend to know what love is for everyone, but I can tell you what it is for me; love is knowing all about someone, and still wanting to be with them more than any other person, love is trusting them enough to tell them everything about yourself, including the things you might be ashamed of, love is feeling comfortable and safe with someone, but still getting weak knees when they walk into a room and smile at you– Even if you’ve been with that person for many years.
Happy Anniversary, Jean. It’s seems just like yesterday when we shared promises on that altar and my, how time flies. Eight years counting and a lifetime to go.
